History of St Helena Bay
St Helena Bay was discovered by Vasco da Gama who arrived in St Helena Bay in 1497. He thought that he arrived at Table Mountain. In fact, there is a small mountain called Klein Tafelberg (small table mountain) which can be seen across the Atlantic Ocean towards Elands Bay.
St Helena Bay was named by Vasco da Gama originally as Bahia de Santa Elena, after his best friend Constantine the Great’ religious mother.
St Helena Bay has a lovely community and one quickly becomes part of it.
It offers:-
• A variety of restaurants, shops, pharmacy and GPs.
• Only 160km drive to Cape Town International Airport
The tranquillity of St Helena Bay is addictive and you can either enjoy the sea or the hills – a bit of both worlds in one little town.
Our sea life entertains us with whales, dolphins and seals.
The closest larger town is Vredenburg, 27km away, which offers a Mall, Auto dealers and a whole variety of Banks and businesses.
Whether sunrise or sunset, St Helena bestows her beauty forever.
You cannot help but fall in love with the beautiful coastal town on the West Coast.
The West Coast is well known for its beautiful wild flowers which is seasonal in late winter / spring.
Great tourist area as there are various game farms close by as well as well as the West Coast National Park and the Fossil Museum.
Close by in Langebaan, we have an Airforce base which hosts our famous Silver Falcons team who entertain us with beautiful flights in the Pilatus aircraft which are always part of air show events.
